‘Principles and Elements’ Glossary and Mind- map
To start the project, we defined the Principles and Elements of art & design in visual glossaries. We were then asked to choose the ‘tools’ that initially interested us, or that we were less familiar with to create a mind map and explore the potential of some of them. Out of the Principles I chose to mind- map: Space, Texture and Line, and Elements; Movement, Rhythm, Balance and Emphasis.
These are my initial reactions to my chosen Principles and Elements.
I also explored my reactions further in my sketchbook to create reaction drawings. I feel like my reactions had already been represented in my digital mind- map and I preferred the layout that let the images speak for themselves. For my next mind- map I might create separate pages of images and drawings to not distract and confuse the images.
While deciding, I was questioning: 'How does Rhythm lead the viewer's eye' and 'How do you create Movement?' Even though we defined the differences in our glossaries, I would not usually discuss Movement and think about the Rhythm of a piece.
The other elements that stood out to me were Balance and Emphasis because they are tools that engage and make features bold, and I liked the idea of something important having presence.
Moving forward, I will reference these images when I start my research, to develop and explore my original reactions.
