Starting FMP

A key aim I want to focus on this project is using the connections I make between research and my creative development to evolve my work.  In my first mind map, I was thinking about using my surroundings to help make that more attainable. These initial ideas have highly focused on being in lockdown and the things I learn- to share them in my work.

Whilst watching Youtube video's on the artists who have created Criterion Collection film posters, I found their advice and process of finding their craft especially interesting.

The Criterion Collection research is an example of artists' process of finding their craft, how they break the fear of creating, and what they enjoy about their work.

I wanted to note some of their quotes down to see the links I could make with my initial ideas- which has helped me add my first mindmap. I've also added some new ideas for ways to present these ideas.

Summary of ideas I have highlighted:
  • Showing the benefits of hobbies
  • Finding tools for creative activities
  • The effect of words and how they motivate
  • Sharing things that make us happy in solitude.

My first task was in response to wanting to create faces I could use in my work.  This was inspired by a gallery visit before lockdown- drawing faces on circles.  I also found it was a fun way to help break my fear of drawing. (Documenting this also shows the effects of the second question.)

To move forward I might think about these questions:
  1. What hobbies do people enjoy and what are their benefits?
  2. What do we learn about ourselves through artists and the process of creating?
  3. What effect does the media I am exposed to have on me?
  4. What makes us happy in our solitude?
