Blackout poetry Using words to develop FMP ideas
With blackout poetry, the piece is affected by the starting page, chosen words, and the new text formed. I found that this worked in these pieces, where it showed how I responded to the actress's experience with disorientated thoughts.
(This exercise could be a way of exploring my question: 'What effect does the media have on me?')
I like how directly Blackout poems convey their messages; combining text and visual art, the audience is given an opportunity to experience their own reaction to the context.
I found that highlighting the words with different shapes can affect its message: for example, the circled words 'remedy' and 'damage' look like a speech bubble.
The second piece reminds me of a maze; what I have noticed about the shapes is that you can read them in many ways.
I can't quite pinpoint know how I feel about these last two new pieces, they are also confused, and work in the same way as how I described before: "spending too much time in someone else's world I find it harder to make sense of mine".
I think if I continued to move forward with this technique I would add images to help me visualize the messages. It is interesting to see how the different techniques add to the narrative and I think this is an interesting exercise to explore meaning, as well as our reaction to media. (I think this is because of the weight words have. Sometimes it is hard to mix words, when a message is clear, it is hard to avoid.)
Note- Interesting art exhibitions I can explore:
