Art of Instruction
WHY-- "I am now going to look into the notion of ‘instruction’ and apply my findings into a poster to help me see what research I am missing and think about how I am going to work on this project."
the explanation why-- (Especially helpful to my project as I want to see how I can apply ‘instruction’ to my experiments to show how accessible art can be.)
interesting side info-- (the curators of the 'Do it' exhibition- while reflecting on the use of instructions in their work- proposed that 'they [instructions] are meant to be interpreted.)
after instruction experiment: reflect and consider these interesting points made for discussion:
Why might someone agree to follow instructions from an artist?
My question: Will they decide to follow my steps? Why might they not want to?
If someone produces artwork in response to a set of instructions, are they also an artist?
Will they produce artwork in response to specific instructions, or am I creating something that inspires an act?
Should instructions always be clear, step-by-step, or even make sense?
How much do I leave my instructions open to interpretation?
first review the activities suggested and then look into the reactions of other artists' instructions.
